How to take action

Change here does not require a lawsuit or a protest — it requires residents on record. Start with the petition, then work down the list. Every step takes minutes, and the officials involved answer to you.

Step 01

Sign the petition

For residents of any city in Volusia County. Add your name to demand that our city and county disclose their Flock camera programs, put any contract to a public vote, and adopt real limits — or end them.

We ask for only your name, email, and city. In Florida, correspondence with public officials is public record, so we keep your details minimal and never sell or share them.

  1. Email your representatives

    Officials count the letters. Copy the message below, then open an email to all five New Smyrna Beach commissioners — or write your own. Under Florida law, these addresses are public record and every message becomes part of it.

  2. Show up to a meeting

    Three minutes at the podium moves more than a hundred emails. Public comment is open to any resident — you do not need to be an expert, only a neighbor who wants answers.

  3. File a public records request

    This is the most reliable way to learn the truth. Florida's Sunshine Law entitles you to the contract, the camera count, the retention policy, and the data-sharing agreements — in writing.

    Under Florida's Public Records Act (Ch. 119), I request copies of: (1) all contracts, invoices, and purchase orders between the City / NSB Police and Flock Safety (Flock Group, Inc.); (2) the current number and locations of ALPR cameras; (3) the department's ALPR and data-retention policy; and (4) any data-sharing agreements with outside agencies. Please advise of any cost before fulfilling. Thank you.

  4. Map a camera you have spotted

    Readers sit high on poles and sign posts, usually near town entrances and busy intersections, often with a small solar panel. If you see one that is not on the map, add it — an accurate map is our strongest evidence.

  5. Tell your neighbors

    Most residents have no idea the cameras exist. Share this site, forward the petition, and bring a neighbor to the next meeting. Cities from Austin to Ithaca have paused or ended Flock contracts once enough residents showed up and asked hard questions.
